Reduction of Unaccounted-for Water in the Cities of Las Piedras and La Paz, Department of Canelones

Client: CIEMSA
Water, Environment & Territory
URUGUAY

The general aim of the consultancy consists in the execution of the tasks for the detection of the drinking water network leakages in the cities of Las Piedras and La Paz, as well as the calibration of the hydraulic model and sectoring in the intervention area.
Among the main activities, the following are included:
- Definition of sectoring of the areas to be intervened, anticipating the required actions for their hydraulic isolation.
- Detection of invisible leakages, both in-house connections and in the network, using water leak locators, leak noise correlator, and/or geophone.
- Hydraulic modeling with EPANET 2.0 software, calibrating it in each sector.
- Support and assistance to CIEMSA in the execution phase of works, establishment of inspections of irregular connections, preparation of intervention reports, and establishment of the water balances in the area, among others.

Project Scope

Provide CIEMSA with the necessary information for the accomplishment of OSE’s objectives for each sector, particularly in what it has to do with the supply of information of invisible leaks using the model of the current situation and the subsequent in situ detection of leaks. This information will allow the identification of the works to be implemented to reduce unaccounted-for water volumes of each sector until the leak indicators values established by OSE.
