Executive project for industrial safety landfill

We were hired by the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay to design a solution for the final disposal of hazardous waste. Our work consisted of the detailed design of an industrial safety landfill, the first of its kind in the country, located northeast of Montevideo.

The landfill will have a capacity of 127,000 m³ for dry solid waste and 23,000 m³ for industrial sludge. Its design is based on four main caverns: two for dry waste and two for sludge.

Each cellar will have the following elements:

  • Waterproofing: An upper and lower waterproofing system.
  • Liquid management: Systems for leachate collection and extraction, as well as leak detection and removal.
  • Gas management: A system for the collection and treatment of gases, specific to sludge caverns.
  • Drainage: A perimeter storm drainage system with emergency lagoons.

The design also includes ancillary services such as a leachate treatment plant, temporary storage areas, sludge reception and distribution areas, and an administration area.

We delivered all the documentation for the bidding process, including memories and graphic pieces, which will allow the call for the construction and operation of the infrastructure.

This project allowed us to design an innovative and safe solution for hazardous waste management in Uruguay, contributing to the protection of the environment and public health.
