Executive project for the effluent treatment plant for Santa Lucia

We were hired to develop the executive project for a wastewater treatment plant for the city of Santa Lucía. Our work covered the areas of hydraulics, architecture, roads and electricity.

The plant was designed for biological treatment of activated sludge with extended aeration, including nutrient removal and final disinfection by UV radiation. The treated effluent is discharged into the Santa Lucía River through an outfall. The sludge generated is thickened in a satellite tank and then dewatered by centrifuges.

The design of the WWTP considered both effluents from the city’s sewer system and effluents from individual systems, transported by barometric trucks. Some of the key design parameters were:

  • Average daily flow rate: 42 liters per second.
  • Maximum instantaneous flow rate: 73 liters per second.
  • Equivalent population: 17,100 inhabitants.

For the development of the project, we use the BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology. We modeled all disciplines of the project, including civil infrastructure, roads, hydraulics, architecture, and concrete and metal structures. This technology allowed us to coordinate the project efficiently, optimize the visualization with the client and generate the necessary technical documentation.

All plant units were modeled individually, and we used the IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) format to ensure correct interoperability between the different software programs.

Our work concluded with the delivery of the executive projects for each of the disciplines involved: hydraulic, road, architectural, structural and electrical, guaranteeing the feasibility and integration of all components.
