Water resources and drinking water
Integral water, sanitation and drainage solutions in Zarumilla and Aguas Verdes

CSI developed a comprehensive study of drinking water, sewerage and storm drainage services in the urban areas of the Peruvian districts of Zarumilla and Aguas Verdes, in the department of Tumbes.

The objective was to formulate two Public Investment Projects (PIP) at the profile level:

  • Improvement and expansion of drinking water, sanitation and wastewater treatment systems.

  • Creation and improvement of the urban storm drainage system.

The project proposed structural measures such as:

  • 9 boreholes for groundwater collection and 4 new reservoirs.

  • 65 km of water networks and more than 7,000 home connections.

  • 72.5 km of sewer system, 8 pumping chambers and wastewater treatment with two technological alternatives.

  • Rainwater system with 201 catchments, 90 km of pipelines and pumping stations.

Also included were non-structural measures such as the strengthening of local operators, technical cadastres and plans to reduce unaccounted-for water.

This work combined technical, social, environmental and legal studies, with a comprehensive approach that sought to reduce infrastructure gaps and improve the quality of life of the communities.
