Isokinetic sampling of emissions at pulp and energy pulp mills

We work at the Montes del Plata mill, located in Punta Pereira, Colonia. This plant produces more than 1.3 million tons of cellulose pulp per year and generates 180 MW of energy from biomass.

We performed isokinetic sampling of emissions in the three main stacks of the plant to analyze various parameters. Our work focused on the following:

  • Recovery boiler and lime kiln: We take samples to analyze metals (Pb, Cr, Cd, Ni, Cu, Hg) and dioxins and furans.
  • Biomass boiler: We take samples for analysis of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and dioxins and furans.

To carry out the project, we used U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) methodologies and the samples were analyzed by a foreign laboratory accredited under ISO/IEC 17025.

In addition, we monitor in situ the parameters of O2, CO, CO2 and humidity with automatic equipment.

This project allowed us to provide Montes del Plata with a detailed analysis of its emissions, ensuring that its operations comply with environmental standards.
