Rehabilitation of Water Treatment Plants in Kuito and Huambo, Angola

In consortium with SUL, we were contracted by the construction company TSE for the detailed design of the rehabilitation of the water treatment plants in the cities of Kuito and Huambo, in Angola. The works, which were subsequently executed by TSE, were aimed at improving the water treatment infrastructure for the National Water Authority (DNA).

Kuito Plant

For the Kuito plant, with a capacity of 330 m³/h, our work focused on the hydraulic design of various components:

  • The conduction of the already filtered water to a tank.
  • Pumping water to a new elevated reservoir, including a study of hydraulic transients and the design of the disinfection system.
  • Replacement of the filter media in the filtration system.

Huambo Plant

In the case of Huambo, which has two plants in parallel with a total capacity of 1,360 m³/h, our work included:

  • The design of a sludge treatment system.
  • The design of an additional warehouse in a distribution center.
  • The design of the disinfection system for two distribution centers.
  • Replacement of the filter media of the two existing filtration systems.

The project was developed in three stages: diagnosis, preliminary project and detailed design, which we completed in six months.

This project allowed us to bring our engineering expertise to improve the water infrastructure in Angola, contributing to the health and well-being of the populations of Kuito and Huambo.
