We carried out the socio-environmental studies and took the necessary steps to obtain the environmental permits from the Ministry of the Environment – DINACEA, for the Highly Innovative Fuels (HIF) project, which contemplates the construction and operation of an eFuels plant in the department of Paysandú.
The plant project includes the production of methanol and synthetic gasoline using hydrogen (H₂) generated by water electrolysis and carbon dioxide (CO₂) obtained by oxy-conversion of forestry and agricultural waste, as well as from the capture of CO₂ from ALUR’s bioethanol plant. The estimated production level is 480,000 tons/year of eMethanol, which will then be converted into eGasoline at the MtG (Methanol to Gasoline) plant, reaching 185,000 tons/year or 256,300,000 m³/year of eGasoline.
The 440 hectare site selected for the plant is located approximately 7 km north of ALUR’s bioethanol plant. Our work included the preparation of the socio-environmental feasibility report, the design of the community relations plan, the preparation and processing of the land use change and the management for obtaining the Prior Environmental Authorization (PEA).
With this project, we reinforce our commitment to the development of innovative initiatives in clean energy, contributing our technical and management experience to make strategic investments viable for the country.
