Technical support for Montevideo's urban sanitation plan

Together with Logos Engenharia and Halcrow, we were hired to advise and provide technical support for the Montevideo Urban Sanitation Plan, Stage IV. Our ultimate goal was to reduce pollution in the bay of Montevideo and nearby beaches.

The project included several large-scale works:

  • Sewage and rainwater drainage: 70 km of sewage networks and 8 km of rainwater drainage.
  • Pumping stations: Six pumping stations with a maximum flow rate of 4500 l/s.
  • Pipelines: 14.9 km of HDPE, FD and GRP pressure pipelines.
  • Pretreatment Plant: One plant with a maximum flow of 5400 l/s.
  • Underwater Outfall: An outfall of 2200 meters long and 1500 mm in diameter, with a maximum flow of 5400 l/s.

Our consortium was fully responsible for the construction management of the underwater outfall. To this end, we reviewed the projects, studied the bids, planned the physical and financial progress of the works and supervised the electromechanical assemblies and civil works.

The implementation of this sanitation plan improved water quality in Montevideo Bay. This helped protect the environment and benefited local communities.
