Sanitation and Drainage, Urban Development
Urban planning and sanitation, rainwater drainage, roads and public spaces in Ciudad del Plata

Together with DHI and SEURECA, we worked on the Urban Water Plan of Ciudad del Plata, a long-term project for integrated water management. Our objective was to define the measures required for investment planning over the next 35 years, integrating water into the urban structure to mitigate conflicts and harness its potential.

Our Scope in the Project

The project was developed in several stages, each with a specific focus:

  1. Assessment: We carried out an assessment of the situation in Ciudad del Plata (with a population of more than 30,000 residents) in key areas such as drainage, sanitation, drinking water, urban planning, and social, institutional, and economic aspects. This gave us a comprehensive understanding of the city’s current conditions.
  2. Strategic Planning: We developed a plan that considered all water subsystems: supply, abstraction, wastewater, stormwater drainage, and coastal and river protection. We defined the principles, objectives, and action lines to guide future water management. We complemented the Local Land Use Plan (PLOT), identifying urban expansion areas and designing the road network and associated public spaces.
  3. Master Plan: We created a master plan for sanitation, stormwater management, and public spaces for a projected population of 60,000 residents by the year 2050. This plan allowed us to identify, formulate, and prioritize the actions to be implemented.
  4. Preliminary Designs: Finally, we developed preliminary designs for sanitation, treatment, and final disposal systems, as well as the stormwater system and the modification of channels and protection levees. We also designed the road network and public spaces. We prepared an estimate of investment, operation, and maintenance costs, and included citizen participation measures to ensure the environmental sustainability of the proposals.

Project Outcomes

As a result of our work, we delivered the Urban Water Plan, a complement to the PLOT, the Master Plan, and the preliminary designs required for the city to move forward with integrated water management. This provided our clients with a clear roadmap for future investment planning.

This project enabled us to build a solid foundation for water management in Ciudad del Plata, helping the city prepare for sustainable future growth.
