Urban Development
Neighborhood improvement program

Together with IPRU, we were hired for the Neighborhood Improvement Program of Montevideo. The project aimed to formalize the settlements of Parque Cauceglia, Nuevo Cauceglia and Villa Libre. The area is home to 1144 people in 300 housing units.

The project was divided into social and infrastructure components.

On the social side, we conducted a neighborhood census. We also developed a social development plan to be implemented during construction.

Regarding physical infrastructure, we addressed several aspects:

  • Urban planning: We designed new streets and relocated 165 housing units that were in flood-prone areas or future public spaces. We also planned a sector for the new houses.
  • Utilities: We designed 3.9 km of sanitary sewer network, a 4.5 km potable water network, and 5.3 km of stormwater collectors.
  • Roadways: We designed 4.45 km of streets with curbs and gutters, as well as pedestrian pathways.
  • Electric power and lighting: We handled the replacement and extension of the electrical grid and public lighting system.
  • Public spaces: We designed a plaza, a children’s play area, and a 7,500 m² sports and recreation area.

Our tasks included pre-investment studies and detailed design projects. We managed the coordination with public agencies to obtain the necessary information, approvals, and permits.

This project provided a comprehensive solution to improve neighborhood infrastructure. The sanitation and urban planning works enhanced the residents’ quality of life.
