Comprehensive Executive Design for the Central Railway

CSI was hired by the Consorcio Constructor del Ferrocarril Central (CCFC) to develop the executive design for all vehicle crossings included in the remodeling project of Uruguay’s central railway line, which spans approximately 300 km.

Scope of the project

260 level crossings were designed, including: road design, drainage design, and horizontal and vertical signage. Additionally, the necessary road detours were developed to mitigate the project’s impact on traffic during the different construction phases.

Methodological Approach

All design packages for the various specialties were developed using BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology, which allowed for efficient integration between disciplines and improved construction planning and monitoring.

Applied Technical Standards

The project was carried out in strict compliance with current national technical specifications and standards, including:

    • General conditions for the construction of public works.

    • Specifications from the National Highway Directorate (DNV) and the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) for bridges, roads, and complementary works.

Key manuals and instructions were also considered, such as:

    • DNV standard sheets.

    • Instruction manual for hydrological-hydraulic design of culverts.

    • Environmental manual for the road sector.

    • Specifications for signage in work zones.

    • UY Technical Standards and other guides on lighting, traffic signals, and road safety.
