We were hired by Maltería Oriental S.A. to carry out the management and construction management of the new expansion of its malt production plant located in Montevideo. This important project increased production capacity by 80,000 tons per year, bringing the total to 220,000 tons.

The expansion, which we managed comprehensively, involved the construction of new and complex structures, as well as the expansion of existing systems.

The main focuses of the work included:

• Two new process buildings: A 61-meter-high cylindrical germination tower and a 14-meter-high drying building, both with outbuildings to house support equipment.
• Infrastructure and services: The construction of new internal roads, an electrical substation, a biomass boiler with its storage and transport system, and the expansion of the hot water and cooling systems.
• Production and logistics systems: A new barley and malt classification and transportation system, a new silo plant for stockpiling, and the expansion of the Effluent Treatment Plant.

As responsible for the project management, our tasks included:

• Procurement and contracting management: We prepare the bidding documents, call for bids and analyze the offers in order to recommend awards.
• Supervision and control: We review the technical documentation, prepare and follow up the schedule and budgets, and ensure the quality of the execution.
• Coordination and safety: We coordinate all those involved (designers, suppliers and contractors), manage on-site safety and prepare monthly progress reports.

This expansion was a milestone for the company, significantly increasing its production capacity and optimizing its processes and infrastructure, ensuring the efficiency and sustainability of its operations in the long term.
