Uruguay moves towards more sustainable mobility

Under the National Sustainable Urban Mobility Program (NUMP), with funding from the European Union’s EUROCLIMA+ initiative. 🇪🇺we completed a key survey in cities across the country. This milestone marks a significant step towards building more sustainable, safe and efficient urban environments in Uruguay. 🇺🇾.

The project focused on obtaining rigorous information on current urban mobility conditions, with special attention to road safety, transportation efficiency and user experience. Throughout the survey, high-precision technical activities were developed, such as:

  • Vehicle and pedestrian traffic measurements: surveys at strategic points to understand traffic flows and speeds.
  • Travel surveys in educational centers: detailed analysis of daily commuting of students and teaching staff.
  • Pedestrian surveys: qualitative and quantitative assessment of pedestrian experience in areas selected for pilot interventions.
  • Audiovisual recording: systematic visual documentation of transport operations and their interaction with the urban public space.

The data obtained will be fundamental for the design, prioritization and evaluation of future road infrastructure works. In addition, they will contribute to the formulation of public policies aimed at improving urban mobility with criteria of sustainability, inclusion and resilience.

This project reinforces the national commitment and that of our technical teams to transform cities into more accessible, connected and people-centered places.
