Administration and internal supervision of the construction of the Independencia Aqueduct

We were hired by Consorcio Exploraciones Mineras del Desierto to manage and supervise the works of the Independencia Aqueduct. The objective was to bring water to the city of Hermosillo, in Sonora, Mexico. The project took water from the “Plutarco Elías Calles” dam and transported it 135 km to the city.

The aqueduct design included several key parts:

  • Water intake: We built an intake at the “Plutarco Elías Calles” dam with a capacity of 2,378 liters per second (l/s). This included the installation of five 1,500 HP pumps.
  • Pumping: We built a pumping station with five 3,250 HP pumps and four reinforced concrete tanks with a capacity of 20,000 m³ each.
  • Additional infrastructure: A swing tower, a regulating tank, a 3.4 km high voltage line and an electrical substation were built.

Our supervision services included construction management, technical supervision, surveying services and a quality control laboratory. We also supervised the installation and commissioning of electrical and electromechanical equipment.

The construction of this aqueduct improved the water supply for the city of Hermosillo. This guaranteed more reliable access to water, a vital resource for the region’s development.
