Biodiversity monitoring at the Paracel industrial site

CSI was contracted by Paracel to monitor biodiversity in the 500-hectare industrial site where a BEKP pulp mill will be built and operated on the banks of the Paraguay River, 15 km north of the city of Concepción. This work provided us with key information for responsible environmental management and evidence-based decision making.

We conduct biannual campaigns -one in the dry season and another in the rainy season- to survey and evaluate the biodiversity of flora and fauna, as well as their evolution in the process of recomposition of natural communities.

Our scope included:

  • Qualitative and quantitative sediment monitoring of the Paraguay River.

  • Study of aquatic communities (benthos, plankton and ichthyofauna, including bioaccumulation).

  • Survey of fauna and flora of the native ecosystem (herpetological, ornithological and mastozoological approaches).

  • Evaluation of the ecological restoration process according to key ecosystem attributes.

  • Preparation of reports with results, conclusions and recommendations.

With this project we reaffirm our commitment to biodiversity conservation and restoration, integrating sustainability as a pillar of our operations.
