We worked on a consultancy to modernize the environmental management of the Salto Grande Hydroelectric Complex, located on the Uruguay River, between Concordia (Argentina) and Salto (Uruguay). This dam is key, as it generates 50% of the energy of the Uruguayan system and 7% of the Argentinean system.

Our objective was to support Salto Grande in the modernization of its environmental management. To achieve this, we carried out the following tasks:

• Information analysis: We analyzed previous studies and available historical information to understand the environmental and social impacts of the complex’s operations.
• Impact assessment: We identify and assess the environmental and social effects of operational activities.

The final result of our work was an Environmental and Social Management Plan. We delivered the following documents to our client:

• A consolidated work plan.
• An initial report with the analysis of the available information.
• A draft and then the final report, which included a diagnosis, the Environmental and Social Management Plan, and implementation recommendations with a cost estimate.

This project allowed us to develop a planning tool that will help Salto Grande improve its environmental and social practices, ensuring a more sustainable operation in the long term.
