Monitoring of marine mammals (PAM) in offshore seismic activity

We worked with WesternGeco on offshore seismic studies for YPF, as part of the oil exploration work on the Uruguayan continental shelf for ANCAP’s Uruguay Round. These studies sought to improve geological knowledge of the oil basins.

WesternGeco operated three vessels: one for seismic surveys and two support vessels. The main vessel performed work in Block 3, covering approximately 3,800 km² of 3D seismic.

Our work consisted of:

  • Daily bioacoustic monitoring: We provide daily reports on the acoustic monitoring carried out during operations.
  • Final report: We prepare a final report with a detailed evaluation of the acoustic data collected during the seismic survey.

This project allowed us to monitor the bioacoustic impact of seismic operations, which contributed to a more responsible oil exploration with the marine environment.
