For the city of Las Piedras, we prepared the executive project for the traffic interchange at the intersection of Route 5 and Route 48. Our design elevated Route 5 over Route 48 with an embankment. At the intersection of Route 48, we built two curved structures, each 13 meters long, with an intermediate embankment, which bridge the traffic circle at grade.
The interchange allows all vehicular maneuvers thanks to four connecting branches and a rotary junction on Route 48. In addition, to improve safety, we included a bicycle lane on Route 48 that connects to the city of Las Piedras, intended for cyclists and pedestrians.
The executive project was based on a series of detailed technical studies. We conducted traffic, topographical, soil, hydrological and hydraulic studies. Based on these data, we developed the geometric design, the soil movement project, drainage and pavements.
For the construction phase, we studied and projected time deviations through modeling. Finally, we calculate the construction schedule.
Project impact
The detailed planning of this interchange optimized vehicular circulation and improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists at a key point. This ensured a more efficient and safer traffic flow at the access to the city of Las Piedras.
